Tony, in that last case not the ad nor the list have to be blamed but the advertiser. The advertiser is the one who chooses the newsletter to advertise in and ... most of the advertisers don't know how to choose a newsletter [Asking in forums what is the best ezine to advertise with is a common mistake.]

One of the most important steps in choosing the ezine to advertise with is ... checking ONLY ezines that have the same topic like the product or service you plan to promote. Otherwise your advertising will be untargeted and you cannot get a very good result no matter how good the ad is and no matter other factors (it's not a poor ad, it's not a poor quality list, but a newbie advertiser who doesn't know what she or he does).

As for the quality of the list ... hmm ... not the appropriate term but anyway nobody can know how smart or dumb the subscribers are. However, you can have a clue on that if you subscribe yourself to that newsletter and read it. If that newsletter is not a newsletter but a sea of ads or similar ... you can guess who stays subscribed to such "newsletter" ;-)

Hi,
Sounds good. i am just about to send out my first solo ad and am lookig at all the angles. I have tested the site page for conversions alraedy on a collegues list and al looks good. The email I used "told a story" and offered a video (sales) at the end to hear the final part of the story.

It seemed to work well. Of course the quality of the actual list is also important. Quality is probably not the best word but in general that's true. I say that because if the ad does not target the demographics of the list the it won't work. some will say poor ad, others will blame the list. What do you think?
